Paternoster Holiday

A Paternoster Holiday Is Just The Thing

While South Africa is certainly home to numerous fantastic holiday destinations, many of these have been overrun by commercial developments, often at the cost of some of the original charm the place possessed. For those of us who are looking for a new adventure without being told what to do, the West Coast is still home to a perfect destination – Paternoster. This idyllic fishermen's village has managed to escape the advances of commercialism and a Paternoster holiday is still filled with all the romance and adventure that one town can muster.

It might be a small and quiet town, but a Paternoster holiday is definitely anything but a boring one. This little town plays host to a myriad of activities, ranging from adrenalin rushes for thrill seekers to quiet relaxation for those seeking to recuperate. Being a fishermen's village, those who enjoy partaking in this sport is in for a treat. Plenty of fishing opportunities await you – even deep sea angling! There are plenty of beaches and sun, and the coastline here is perfect for kayaking. Kite surfing and kite flying are also popular.

For those who prefer to stay on land, horseback rides are available to explore the area. The Columbine Nature Reserve offers one of the most magnificent carpets of flowers during spring, and the West Coast Fossil Park is home to many interesting fossils, including sabre tooth tigers and mega tooth sharks. The Cape Columbine Lighthouse also deserves a visit, as this is one of the last manually operated lighthouses in the country.

The Limestone House offers comfortable and spacious accommodation for those looking to visit this great little town. The main house offers three bedrooms, one with a queen-size bed, the other two with double beds each, two bathrooms, a well equipped kitchen, a ten seater table designed to host long drawn out meals, and a giant fireplace. The apartment boasts two bedrooms, one full bathroom, inside braai, a fully equipped kitchen and a dining room-lounge. From here one has the most amazing sea views.
